7 Reasons I Babywear!

Monday, October 20, 2014

If you've been reading for a while you know I love babywearing. However, Babywearing wasn't always important to me. I really didn't start babywearing until baby #5 came and I decided to babywear because lugging a stroller everywhere was a pain in the butt living in the big city. We don't have a vehicle we use the bus, subway and street car often so lugging a stroller isn't always practical or easy.

People always ask me why I babywear, or how I got into it. I got into it because it's MUCH easier to wrap a baby, or put on the Boba and go... My babies didn't always like the stroller and would cry, attempt to get out and it wasn't fun for anyone. So here are my top 7 reasons why I babywear.

COMFORTING
Not only it is comforting for me to know my baby is happy, and snuggled against me but the baby is comforted knowing they are on me, can feel my heartbeating, and I am not going anywhere without them!

CONVENIENT
No big strollers to fold and unfold while getting on the bus, subway or street car. No stroller to have anyone accidentally bump into or have to move out of everyone's way.

BREASTFEEDING IS EASIER!
Breastfeeding is so much easier. Just loosen a bit, reposition baby, and away you go. Most of the time people don't even know you are doing it! If you've ever dealt with a screaming, hungry baby while out in public you can understand this one!

A LOT LESS CRYING!
I always found my babies got bored, wanted snuggles and just want to be held so often in the stroller they'd cry. I would say while babywearing there is 90% less crying. They feel warm, protected and comforted right with Mommy/Daddy! The only time my babies have cried while babywearing were when hungry or needing a change.

ADULT INTERACTION!
I have also found that while babywearing so many people stop to talk. Adult interaction win! They ask about babywearing, give a nice compliment or just ask to see the baby! It's a great conversation starter and it's a great way to encourage others who may also want to babywear!

BENEFICIAL & SOOTHING
Not only does babywearing allow for more bonding time with baby it also helps soothe baby, and attend to baby's needs faster and easier than when in a stroller. Babywearing helps babies be more content and less fussy.

BECAUSE I LOVE CUDDLES!
Simply put I like babywearing because I love cuddles with my babies. I love the closeness, and that extra time we spend out running errands, going to the bus stop or simply a walk around the block gives me extra time to snuggle and love on my baby that I wouldn't be able to do while pushing a stroller! No, don't worry babies won't get "spoiled" or cry when not held.

In addition, a little added bonus is now my husband sees and wants in on it too. Men babywearing their babies? TO DIE FOR.

Isn't this just the cutest? Yeah, I think so too.

I know a lot of people who aren't into babywearing always wonder WHY we bother, why we can't just hold the babies or "put them down!" so I just wanted to share this little bit of information I found on LLL:

Some parents worry that a baby who is constantly held or worn will become a fussy baby, always crying for attention. Actually, the opposite seems to be true. In cultures where babies are constantly in the arms of caregivers, infant crying spells are virtually unheard of. A study in North America showed that babies cried less when parents were instructed to wear or carry them for several "extra" hours each day. THE WOMANLY ART OF BREASTFEEDING comments:
These findings confirm what our mothering instincts tell us —- that plenty of loving contact does not "spoil" a baby or make him more demanding, but instead helps him feel more comfortable and happy in his new world.
A happy baby is quiet and alert. In this state of mind, he is ready to interact with people. When worn or carried by a parent, a contented baby can see what’s going on around him. When he sees facial expressions and hears his mother's voice, he is learning about the world.

In addition to helping infants develop emotionally and socially, baby wearing also meets their physical needs.

Babies need and enjoy motion. In the womb, they become accustomed to the sound of mother's heart pumping blood and to the feeling of being confined in a small space. The experience of being in the womb also teaches them to enjoy the rhythm of their mother’s movements. After birth, the experience of being held close to a parent’s body helps them recall the peace they felt in the womb. A baby sling swaddles them and helps control the movement of their arms and legs. As parents move around the house or walk down the sidewalk, the motion soothes babies. Parents quickly discover that their newborn will sleep while in their arms, comforted by the rise and fall of mother or father’s chest. Lay that newborn down in a crib that neither breathes nor walks and baby wakes up in a hurry! ----- http://www.lalecheleague.org/nb/nbnovdec04p204.html

Well, There you have it!

Now don't get me wrong. I still use a stroller. Mostly around the neighbourhood - to run to Walmart or if I am alone with the kids it's easiest to put Justin and Jackson in our sit n stand so Jackson is safe and there's no extra helping hands from dad. But I would much rather babywear. I know it's not for everyone but I really enjoy it and when done safely, it's an amazing experience for both mom or dad and baby!

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN A BABY-WEARER?

If yes: Did you enjoy it?

If no: Do you think it's something you'd try, if you could maybe with your own kids, grandkids or a family member?

Babywearing Brother

Thursday, August 28, 2014

If you've been reading my blog for a little while now you will know I am a HUGE Babywearing fan. I am also a Boba Ambassador and thrive to share knowledge about safe, and proper babywearing. Well, I just wanted to share this little story with you because not only is it adorable, but I know most of you will enjoy it as well!

A few weeks ago we were getting ready to head out to the park when Jordan who will be turning 11 on September 7th asked if he could wear Justin in the Boba. I was a little hesitant at first because Justin is turning 1 on September 9th and isn't the smallest of little ones - but I said sure, let's try it. Little did I know both boys would love it and probably enjoy it as much as I do.

Jordan wore him to the park, at the park and on the way home...

 How cute right?

Well, last night just after 7 Jordan and I were talking about phone cases and how his broke, he didn't want to order one so we decided to head to the dollar store to grab him a new case. All the other kids were in bed, but I was bringing Justin with us. Jordan asked if he could babywear him again. A little shocked, I wasn't so sure because Justin was snuggly and pretty much ready to nap himself but Jordan really wanted to and said he would be fine and of course he was. Not only did Justin smile, and bounce the whole time but he even snuggled his head into Jordan, and cuddle most of the time too... SO CUTE.

So I just wanted to post and say, not only is Babywearing amazing for Mom, Dad and Babies but also for getting siblings involved too! Jordan not only was so proud, but he also said he felt closer to Justin being able to cuddle and keep him close too.

Babywearing is for everyone! Even if it isn't your thing, or you don't have babies of the babywearing age aren't the photos cute to look at? I love seeing siblings babywearing, especially with it being one of my very own passions! Jordan is such a great big brother, I hope he realizes how much these kids all love him!

BobaAir Review

Wednesday, July 23, 2014

As many of you know I love Babywearing. I have used Boba for 3 years now and I absolutely love their SSC's. I have used many others but to me none are as wonderful as Boba.

I am a Boba Ambassador but I can assure you my reviews are 100% my own, and true. I really do love Boba.

Today I am sharing my review for the BobaAir with you.

I received the BobaAir in Gray, which is one of my favorite colours! It will also be much cooler in the coming weeks in this heat!

"The BobaAir is an ultra lightweight baby carrier that is great for travelers or any parent on the go. It folds up into its own hood pouch to be easily stored in a purse or diaper bag! The BobaAir is intended for children 15-45lbs." - bobafamily.com

  • Weight Range: 15-45lbs
  • Waist Belt: 25"-58"
  • Fits Adults: 5'0"-6'3"
  • Buckles Used: Duraflex
  • Zippers Used: YKK
  • Shoulder strap length: 20" to 40"
  • Fabric 100% Nylon
  • Height of the body of the carrier: 15.7". Height of the waist belt: 5.1"
  • Width of the Seat of the Carrier: 12.5"
  • Weight of the carrier: .7 lbs
  • Made in China

We went for a family walk and decided I would wear Justin in the BobaAir to give it a test! Not only was it ultra comfortable, it was also extremely lightweight for me and Justin loved it too! Not bulky or hot which is a huge plus in these hot summer months.

It wasn't a really hot evening when we went out so I am
waiting for a super hot day to bring it along with us again to see how it fairs but I have a feeling it will be super airy for the both of us. Babywearing in the summer can be super hot especially while I'm still losing this last bit of baby weight so this is a carrier that is perfect for summer heat.

I will admit I was very surprised to use the BobaAir and not have any big comfort issues. While it may not look very comfortable at first glance, it really is.

I wore the BobaAir for just over and hour in total this outing. No padding didn't really make too much of an issue for us. I could however start to feel a bit of discomfort in my shoulders nearing the end of the walk when Justin wanted to nurse and go to sleep so he was a bit squirmy... Which is when I think the padded shoulder straps would have prevented but I really have no big complaints.

I wore it again to run to the store last night and again, no complaints. It's simply a great carrier. My favorite part about it? It folds its self down into a pouch that can be taken anywhere and is so super compact! With a price point of $65 you can't go wrong!

I will of course use my Boba 4g and beloved favorite 2g for long outings and trips but for short walks or grocery trips the BobaAir is a fantastic choice! I will absolutely keep it in my purse and diaper bag to use on the go!

If you are looking for a budget friendly, good sturdy carrier without the bulk, weight and comfort compromise the BobaAir is a perfect choice!

As always, I wanted to remind about safe babywearing. I check the hashtag on Instagram often and see a lot of people babywearing incorrectly.... It takes time and practice (heck I can't even wrap on my back yet, I'm too scared!) so please do your research and practice safe babywearing!

Review: Boba Hoodie

Monday, March 31, 2014

When I was given the choice between a Boba Hoodie or Boba Vest I jumped at the chance to get a Hoodie. Because in Canada it's mighty cold and a hoodie just seemed much more fitting, so I got the hoodie in Black!

I am so glad I did. Not only is it extremely comfortable, but it's extremely fashionable and warm! I have even gotten comments on it from random strangers as well as a man crossing the street yelling over at me "Hey! Did your carrier come with that coat?"

It's fantastic. If you live somewhere that gets cold and love babywearing then the Boba Hoodie is most definitely something I suggest looking into.

Boba Hoodie

"Like your favorite hoodie, made for two! The Boba Hoodie is designed to fit over your Boba Wrap, Boba Carrier or any soft structured carrier to keep you and your little one warm. Works with your baby either on the front or back, and has a hidden zipper for easy on and off. Thumb holes keep sleeves down for easier cool-weather layering. Made of a soft terry blend of cotton and spandex. (Please note, this is just a hoodie, not a baby carrier.)" - boba.com

Features:

  • May be worn on the front or back
  • Made of 95% Cotton, 5% Spandex
  • Hood
  • Two zippered pockets
  • Side openings allow you to access your baby to breastfeed and tend to your child's needs
  • Works great under a coat for cold temperatures
  • Side zipper for easy on and off without scratching your baby

Mine has been getting great use. In the snow, and now in the still cold but less than freezing start to Spring weather too.
Nicer weather but still pretty cold, but not us!

Cuddly and Warm waiting for the kids at the school bus stop!

Not only does the hoodie zip up the side which makes it extremely easy to get on over the Boba carrier but I got a Large so it would be a little bit bigger on me which makes it even more comfortable for the both of us! It even has thumb holes for my hands to keep warm! It's a fabulous design, and truly does keep mom and baby warm!

The Boba Hoodie comes in Black or Grey, Retails for $70.00 and comes in 4 different sizes

If you are a babywearer and would like something more than an open sweater for yourself and a blanket that keeps falling off baby, look into a Boba Hoodie. You will not be sorry!

Review: Babywearing in a Boba 4G!

Tuesday, January 14, 2014

"The Boba Carrier 4G includes more than a dozen features making this carrier truly one of a kind!"

If you are a fan of my Facebook page...you heard this news already, but for those who don't know.. I am a brand new Boba Ambassador. This is most incredible to me because Boba has been my favorite carrier for the last 2 years.  I've tried most carriers on the market right now, and none live up to Boba in my eyes. The fit is perfect for me, and my babies seem to really love being in them too.

I've been using my Boba 2G since I discovered it 2 years ago, but when I became a Boba ambassador I was given the chance to have a Boba 4G.. So of course, I chose the 4G in the Tweet Pattern! How cute is this?

Justin absolutely loves being held. I can barely get anything done without having to hold him so this carrier got a lot of use out of it this weekend while I was able to get household chores done, and tend to all the other kids.

First things first - It has the same great feel as the Boba 2G I have, and is still just as lightweight and comfortable. I can't rave any more about how the fit is with the Boba. It's not big or bulky, and it doesn't fit too far down on my waist where other carriers do and make wearing uncomfortable. It fits just right, and doesn't need any adjusting once on. Justin is only 14lbs so I left the infant insert in it which is just a little pillow - pure genius - He was loving the fact he could see everything and be comfortable.

The infant insert snaps in, and if you don't need it you can unsnap and away you go..

It really didn't bother my back either. Usually babywearing can take a toll on my back with my wrap, but because this is a structured carrier, it has full support and is extremely comfortable to wear. As you can see above, baby loved it too.

It comes with a hood, and a huge plus to me - POCKETS! for carrying things like a cell phone, money/debit cards, anything small you may need to carry on you. The 4G also comes with detachable foot stirrups for an older child, to be carried in complete comfort.

It was very easy to put on by myself. I find sometimes carriers need an extra person to help get them on (maybe that's just me?) but I didn't need any help getting this Boba on or off...

Not only is it perfect for my height, and body it also was a huge hit for daddy. He wore it while he chopped up potatoes in the kitchen and said it was extremely comfortable and wasn't as heavy or bulky as others.

For reference my hubby is 6'2" and he really enjoyed wearing the baby in it. I really can't say enough good things about the Boba, and I've now become completely smitten with the 4G.

If you are looking for a good sturdy, lightweight carrier I strongly suggest the Boba 4G. It comes in some great prints, and beautiful solid colors. Prices range from: $125-$148. A 4G Plus: You don't have to purchase an infant insert separately. It comes with the carrier.

As previously mentioned - The Boba 4G has 12 features, making it one of a kind:
  1. Removable sleeping hood
  2. Comfortably fits heights 5'0" - 6'3"
  3. Waistband range: 25" - 58"
  4. Additional adjustment for easier fit breastfeeding
  5. Removable foot straps
  6. Elastic bands neatly roll up straps
  7. Shoulder strap holders keep purse in place
  8. Easily adjustable chest strap
  9. Uniquely designed to "hug" your child
  10. Includes Integrated Infant Insert
  11. Body of carrier rises 2"-3" higher than other brands
  12. Multiple pockets for on-the-go storage
"The carrier can be used from 7-45lbs. Our ergonomic design, foot straps, and multiple adjustments make this carrier the perfect fit for your entire family."
