Tattooed Mama!

Friday, May 30, 2014

For as long as I can remember my mom had tattoos. I always thought they were the coolest, and I knew I'd have some one day. Well, 2 days ago I got tattoo #5. I also have an appt next week to finish up my tattoo I have for my kids (it needs 2 stars added for Jackson and Justin!) and for tattoo #6. I cannot wait!

When I was 16 and my mom passed away I finally got my first tattoo. It is dedicated to my mom, and says "Mommy's Girl" It's on my stomach to the side, and its been through 6 pregnancies and still looks the same. Now that I've had other tattoos done, I see what crappy work it was, but it's still dear to me regardless because of what it means.

I know some people think "omg, tattoos are for life! you shouldn't get them!" but I love them anyways, and mine are all where they can be covered if needed no problem.

I can honestly say, to this day 4 out of my 5 tattoos didn't hurt. The one done just 2 days ago? WORST PAIN! It felt like burning, and deep, deep, pain. But, I'm told it's because it was on the top of my foot and it's a pretty sensitive area due to the thin skin! I'd agree.

I am impressed with how it turned out though. I love every single one of my tattoos. Next week,  #6 is an autograph of someone famous that recently passed away. I've taken 6 months to think about it and I decided I wanted to do it - It means a lot to me. I donate to this persons charity monthly, I have for a long time, and I always thought autograph tattoos were super cool.

Here are all my tattoos to date, in order of when I got them!

My very first tattoo on my stomach - says "Mommy's girl"
My 2nd tattoo I got when I was 18 on my lower back.

3rd tattoo on my right wrist. Big yellow star symbolizes me and the others are my kids. Need 2 more for the 2 babies!

On my left wrist my hubby and I have this matching tattoo. His has a J in the middle for me:)

And my beautiful 5th tattoo I got a few nights ago on my right foot. My beloved Orca whale, which if you know me at all know is one of my all time favorite things in this world.

Do you have any tattoos? what are they? If not, and you'd like one what would you get?

  11. I have 5 as well. My first one is on my shoulder and it is half of a broken heart with a halo and a wing. I got it on my 18th birthday. I have thought of covering it up though because I got it with my high school sweetheart of 4 1/2 yrs at the time. We were planning to get married but broke up about a year after that. My 2nd one is a Wizard Mickey Mouse which stands for my Dad who also passed when I was 16. It is on my lower back. I went back and added a My Little Pony to it as well. Then my last one is a purple and blue tree frog on my ankle that matches my sisters. We got them the day before she shipped off to go over seas to Kuwait back when the war first started.

  12. The orca tattoo is really nice...love it! I also like how whimsical the stars/love tattoo looks - almost like an illustration for a children's book. I have one tattoo on my upper arm that I can cover easily. Got it in college and I drew it, so it has sentimental value to me. It is a jaguar (not colored it) where the tail and the front foot phases into a thorny line (hard to explain, I guess) In the middle of the cat, is the Tao sign for "middle". Chose that for the quote 'Those who obtain the middle, dominate the whole.' To this day, I am amazed that I ever got one because I don't like pain or needles. Honestly, I think the sound of the needle bothered me more than anything.

  15. I don't have tattoos but all three of my kids do. I choose not to tattoo and you choose to tattoo. I don't see a problem with that. I like the reasons behind yours.

  19. I have an accidental tattoo that is really just a squiggle line on my right middle finger. I cut my finger while scrubbing the under carriage of a car during a youth fundraiser and got grease deep in the cut. Despite my efforts to clean it, I couldn't get the discoloration out. I even went to the doctor over it, and he chuckled and said I'd given myself a tattoo. It's been there for 10 years now. LOL

  24. I had the needle put into my skin one time to see if I could sit through a tattoo and NO WAY! I'm too much of a wuss, but I love how you have a tattoo dedicated to your mom. I always wanted to get a tattoo dedicated to my sister. She passed in 2005.

  25. I have a tattoo but I got it when I was young. I think honestly mostly to irritate my mother. It doesn't bother my -- I don't mind it but if I had to go back I wouldn't do it.

  34. I don't have any but my husband has a small one. It's actually a pitiful excuse of one he did himself as an adolescent. It's a really squiggly cross, LOL!!! I will more than likely never get one - but if I did, I always said it would be of something small probably on my foot. I always loved the little chick feet that the Dixie Chicks have on their feet.

  41. I don't have any tattoos. I change my hair style and color at least once a year because I get bored looking at it - I can't imagine picking something to be on my body for the rest of my life and not getting tired of it after too long!

In order of getting them a crown on the small of my back, a half sleeve Japanese storm with cherry blossom branch on my left arm, a half sleeve three ages of women on my right lower arm and my guardian angel on the top of my right arm. A castle and key covering my left thigh, a family of birds covering my right thigh.
