OZ Naturals Skin Care Review

Friday, October 31, 2014

It's not often I wear make up or do much when it comes to my face/skin. Lately though, my skin has been feeling very dry and wait for this one - I am developing wrinkles around my eyes! Que tears. 29 years old! Must be all the stress and I blame genes.

But, that's okay. I take it all with pride. However, I was contacted by OZ Naturals and asked if I would like to try some products! Of course I jumped at the chance after taking a look at their products and others reviews. I don't put just anything on my skin/face but when I do I make sure it's top notch.

OZ naturals is just that.

ABOUT OZ NATURALS

All of our products are produced in small batches and packaged under secure & sterile conditions in a state of the art, FDA certified facility to ensure optimal potency and freshness.

I also make sure to verify any products I use are NOT tested on animals, OZ Naturals is absolutely not tested on animals which I was pleasantly surprised to see addressed on the FAQ page on their official website.

Something else I was excited to see on their website in their FAQ:

Can you use OZ Naturals while pregnant or breastfeeding?
While our products contain 98% natural and 72% organic ingredients, you should probably ask your doctor. Some doctors have differing opinions when it comes to natural products. They'll tell you to stay away from something that seems totally harmless and natural, but not say anything against parabens, pabas, and propolyne gylcol…which is in almost every product on the market. However, to be on the safe side check with your doctor first.

I am breastfeeding so I confirmed with my doctor  and he said I was okay to use the products I have. Seeing them even address this on their website FAQ was a huge plus for me as I never see this.

From OZ Naturals I received.....

I have only been using these products for about a week or so now but my favorite is by far the Super Youth Eye Gel. It has severely decreased the size of the bags/puffiness under my eyes. It's more of a different feeling rather than a visual one, which I'm okay with its been about a week so I'll see how it goes!

So far I can say without a doubt I absoutely love the Super Youth Eye Gel. It's made under my eyes less dark and puffy and I feel like it's even firmed up the skin somewhat. The vitamin C Hyaluronic Acid and the Vitamin C Hyaruronic Acid and Amino blend I use before bed after washing my face and neck. It's made my skin really smooth but because I don't have any wrinkles around these areas I'm not finding a huge difference, however my skin does feel much smoother and firmer all over where I have been using all products. I've also noticed a decrease in blemishes which I still get during my monthly, and this is a HUGE plus. I will continue using all three of these products especially as I get older and those fun wrinkles appear.

All in all I would recommend trying Oz Natural products if you are looking for a natural skin care line that is effective and safe.

Preparing for Halloween

Wednesday, October 29, 2014

As I was getting ready to write up this post Timehop informed me I had posted this photo One year ago of Justin. It's crazy how fast time flies - I miss doing these themed photos, now there's no way he would sit still for one!

Halloween is a busy,  often dark and usually a wet night around where we live. Cars are flying around driving kids from door to door (right? who does that!?) so you can NEVER be too safe and prepared for anything that may happen! I just wanted to share something we've done the past few Halloween's just to make sure if there are a group of Spiderman's going to a door and we are standing at the bottom of it - we are sure to lead our own kid away!

Neat right? These are cute little reflectable stick on's they are thick and don't fall off. They stick to the back of your child's costume and glow in the dark. I've been using these or different types of these for a few years now and we've never been disappointed. These? $1! At the dollar store. Amazing, Effective and Cheap! Who doesn't love that?

My kids are generally really good about sticking with us, but you can never be too safe on Halloween (or any outing for that matter!)

Tonight we will be carving our Three pumpkins. We usually buy two but this year Jayden went on a field trip to a farm and got one too! So, it will be interesting to see how he wants to carve his very own pumpkin! This is what we did last year.

The pumpkin on the left was my Husband's and he was attempting to create bats and a design. It didn't work out so well. The left? That would be my pumpkin Mickey! It's not perfect but I am darn proud of it!

Wish all of you that celebrate a safe and Happy Halloween!

Do you take any precautions to keep your little ones or even HOUSE safe on Halloween?

The Selfie Me Vs The Real Me

Sunday, October 26, 2014

I don't know if this is an issue with anyone else but who doesn't love a good selfie? I'll tell you I've come to loathe the selfie.

Why? Because I am not a fan of photos of myself in general but a selfie? Is a chore. It also isn't really me. Taking a good selfie to me is like pulling teeth. I have to make sure the angle is right, the light is a specific way, the filter has to be perfect. It's a pain.

However I have made a point of being in more photos, especially with the kids. I was told about a year ago there isn't enough photos of me so now I try, but are the photos really who I am? Not really.

Last week I wanted to take a photo for my blog that I could use on all social media to help people know who I was, and be able to associate my photo with blog. I went through all my selfies and none of them were a true representation of me. If you were to bump into me outside on the street you most definitely wouldn't see me as my "selfie-self".

When taking photos I think about my kids. My girls mostly, and how they must feel when they see me setting myself up for a selfie, or deleting them because I just don't like them. After writing this post I've gotten a lot better about myself, but I know there's still a lot to work on. Making sure the kids see me happy with myself, and not always deleting or altering photos of myself is a huge deal to me so I have been working on this for sometime. Now it was time for me to post photos that weren't the perfect photo - not the ultimate selfie.

I asked Jordan who is so talented when it comes to photos if he would snap a few shots for me. Of course he did, and I LOVED the results. However, I was still a little nervous about posting them.

I wanted a true representation of me, who I am on a daily basis. The mom you'd see on the sidewalk, bump into and know exactly who I am... Have no idea what I'm talking about? Here's an example of my "Selfie-self" hair just right, little bit of make up and perfect lighting and angle.

Here's a photo Jordan took of me last week, no make up, no perfect hair, no perfect side angle, Just ME. Goes with the one to the right on the side bar....

I look like two different people. I'm sure this happens with a lot of people, but why? I have no answer. Except for myself which is I just generally have never liked photos of myself. My hair always looks fluffy and out of this world - it's super thick and long, I can't wear it up due to headaches and migraines so it's always the same. I rarely put make up on unless it's to go out to a fancy dinner or event.

Then it dawned on me when I was asking my husband and sister in law for advice on what photo I should use - I've spent way too much time worrying about what my photos look like, and instead I should just embrace them because I love who I am as a person, and I'm quite okay with how I look as a mom of 6 littles - I am who I am. Which, is easier said than done believe me but it's true. Why online do we feel the NEED to only post those perfect photos? I don't know but I am going to take one photo and one photo only from now on and post it. Not 40 photos of the same thing, and choose which is best! This doesn't teach our kids anything or set a good example and I don't even think we realize this. Our kids watch everything we do. My girls, always try to do things I do.

So I took the plunge -- I posted my photo, I used it with pride and am very happy I did. No misleading, no perfect seflie, just pure honest me. I'll admit I did throw on that "Mayfair" filter from Instagram because I LOVE the deep colours and how bright photos come out, but the rest? Is what it is!

Do you like taking selfies? Do you often find photos are a true representation of you?

Mom Guilt & A Very Brave Boy!

Friday, October 24, 2014

Yesterday was a hard day to not have a clone. A double. A snazzy I need to be in 2 places at once machine.

Jayden our very brave five year old had surgery and I couldn't be there.

He was in great hands with daddy, but that still doesn't make me feel any better. I'm the type of mom that feels guilt if I am not with my kids and something happens. Good or Bad.

Oh a kid is picking on mine at school and she's crying? MOM GUILT. (And rage but that's a whole other topic!)

My child got an award at school but I didn't get the phone call? MOM GUILT.

It's who I am. I want to be there at all times and even though it isn't realistic it's still something that bugs me and I'm working on. I cry when my kids start the first day of school every year, get a report card and even when they accomplish little or big things. Crazy mom right here. But surgery? I wish I could be there.

Back when Ava was 2 she had surgery on her eyes. She was born with a lazy weak eye which also equals a bit of a cross eye. Jayden? Same thing.

After Ava's surgery I did not want to put any child through that again. I said no way, if they want it they can do it when bigger. Why? Ava woke up after surgery and flipped out. FLIPPED OUT. Instead of a nurse or doctor getting a us they put her back under. Wish I was kidding. But, I'm not. So finally hours after her surgery we got to see her and to be honest and blunt - she looked dead laying there. It was one of the hardest things I've ever had to see. For 2 days after she cried non stop and was in a lot of pain. So I was against any more eye surgery. My husband didn't agree.

He is the one who has a lazy eye and wore bi-focals as a kid. They got this from him so he kind of knows what it's like to deal with (or not) and decided Jayden needed the surgery.

So, here we are. They had to be at the hospital for 9am. His surgery was scheduled for 11a-1230pm but they took him in an hour early.

He did incredible and is doing wonderfully. He even facetimed with me from the recovery room. Where he had one of the most incredible nurses I'm told, which is AMAZING.

When he got home I was so relieved. I think he was too and was happy to see me!

He is feeling great, and is home with me today. So why do I still feel awful? I don't know if this is typical mom behavior this feeling of guilt, I don't have my mom to ask but it really truly is stressful not being there for your child. Instead I had to be home to get the other kids off to school, to be with Jackson and Justin (Justin who is still nursing and can't be too far from me for long) and there's no way I could have gone by myself with Jayden, I'm just too much of a dramatic mess to do that. I would have cried my eyes out and no one needs that, especially Jayden. So I sat home and made him things he requested like Blue and Green jello, Chocolate chunk cookies, Cupcakes and even a surprise little cake.

I think it's time to realize it's okay to NOT be at their side every time something happens. I'm NOT their only parent. How will they be independent, or learn how to cope with things on their own? Surgery is a big deal, but Daddy was with him so it's not like he was left alone to be scared or anything.

This is more of a mom's crazy guilt, attachment issue I think. After all when we did FaceTime the first thing he said to me? " Mom I fell asleep on my own! " referring to the fact they had to put him to sleep for the surgery. It wasn't him screaming in pain, calling my name through a fit of tears. He was OK.

I'm just generally the one there for everything. An ear to listen, a shoulder to cry on and a kiss when a booboo happens and is needed. I stick up for them and guide them when upset or in pain... But Daddy was there. So, I guess that's an issue within me I have to deal with - I just need to figure out how!

Babies don't stay babies for long, and they won't need their mommy forever. Time I start to face the music before I really learn my lesson right?

How do you deal with mom guilt? or any kind of guilt?

5 Tips for Helping a Preteen Get Things Accomplished

Wednesday, October 22, 2014

Recently it's been hard to keep Jordan on task. He wants to do all these things, go out with friends, play sports, go on the computer, text this person and text that person! It's a crazy life being an eleven year old apparently!

Jordan recently brought home a violin from music class. He said all the kids are learning different instruments. He was at first a little interested in the violin but that shortly changed and he hasn't brought it home since that first week. He's just happy he didn't get microkorg xl or something else like one of his friends got and is having some different issues. But, he says its really hard so I have told him when they allow him to bring it home again to bring it and we can try again! He gets frustrated and wants to quit, but we talked and he said he will try. He said he isn't a quitter, I just think he needed a little pep talk!

He is struggling not wanting to do homework, he has a complaint every time we ask him to do one of his normal chores. So I sat down and figured out some ways I can help him focus, get the things he needs to get done accomplished and help in anyway I can.

ENCOURAGE
I find telling him how great he plays, how wonderful his sentences for homework are and what a great example he is for his younger siblings helps.

GIVE BREAKS
If he has three pages of homework to do and really doesn't want to do it in the first place - giving short breaks between pages gives him time to get a drink, a snack and just clear his head for a few minutes.

SIT DOWN AND HELP
I take time to sit with him, help when he needs it and really just be there in case he has a question or needs a little support. I don't do any of the work for him but I watch and help as needed.

LISTEN
Often times having them talk out a problem, explain a note or speak through an answer helps them figure things out on their own.

INCENTIVES
Yep. I'm not above them. He has a cellular phone that we pay for monthly so if he wants to keep it he needs to keep up with his chores, homework and behavior at school. So a quick reminder really gets that fire going.

Jordan is extremely smart. He's also a preteen boy and extremely dramatic and once in a while mouthy. These are just some tips I've learned along the way that help us out. Maybe they can help you out, or someone you know.

Preteens are super fun, the teenage years well ... I'll need a whole new set of tips to get through that now won't I?

7 Reasons I Babywear!

If you've been reading for a while you know I love babywearing. However, Babywearing wasn't always important to me. I really didn't start babywearing until baby #5 came and I decided to babywear because lugging a stroller everywhere was a pain in the butt living in the big city. We don't have a vehicle we use the bus, subway and street car often so lugging a stroller isn't always practical or easy.

People always ask me why I babywear, or how I got into it. I got into it because it's MUCH easier to wrap a baby, or put on the Boba and go... My babies didn't always like the stroller and would cry, attempt to get out and it wasn't fun for anyone. So here are my top 7 reasons why I babywear.

COMFORTING
Not only it is comforting for me to know my baby is happy, and snuggled against me but the baby is comforted knowing they are on me, can feel my heartbeating, and I am not going anywhere without them!

CONVENIENT
No big strollers to fold and unfold while getting on the bus, subway or street car. No stroller to have anyone accidentally bump into or have to move out of everyone's way.

BREASTFEEDING IS EASIER!
Breastfeeding is so much easier. Just loosen a bit, reposition baby, and away you go. Most of the time people don't even know you are doing it! If you've ever dealt with a screaming, hungry baby while out in public you can understand this one!

A LOT LESS CRYING!
I always found my babies got bored, wanted snuggles and just want to be held so often in the stroller they'd cry. I would say while babywearing there is 90% less crying. They feel warm, protected and comforted right with Mommy/Daddy! The only time my babies have cried while babywearing were when hungry or needing a change.

ADULT INTERACTION!
I have also found that while babywearing so many people stop to talk. Adult interaction win! They ask about babywearing, give a nice compliment or just ask to see the baby! It's a great conversation starter and it's a great way to encourage others who may also want to babywear!

BENEFICIAL & SOOTHING
Not only does babywearing allow for more bonding time with baby it also helps soothe baby, and attend to baby's needs faster and easier than when in a stroller. Babywearing helps babies be more content and less fussy.

BECAUSE I LOVE CUDDLES!
Simply put I like babywearing because I love cuddles with my babies. I love the closeness, and that extra time we spend out running errands, going to the bus stop or simply a walk around the block gives me extra time to snuggle and love on my baby that I wouldn't be able to do while pushing a stroller! No, don't worry babies won't get "spoiled" or cry when not held.

In addition, a little added bonus is now my husband sees and wants in on it too. Men babywearing their babies? TO DIE FOR.

Isn't this just the cutest? Yeah, I think so too.

I know a lot of people who aren't into babywearing always wonder WHY we bother, why we can't just hold the babies or "put them down!" so I just wanted to share this little bit of information I found on LLL:

Some parents worry that a baby who is constantly held or worn will become a fussy baby, always crying for attention. Actually, the opposite seems to be true. In cultures where babies are constantly in the arms of caregivers, infant crying spells are virtually unheard of. A study in North America showed that babies cried less when parents were instructed to wear or carry them for several "extra" hours each day. THE WOMANLY ART OF BREASTFEEDING comments:
These findings confirm what our mothering instincts tell us —- that plenty of loving contact does not "spoil" a baby or make him more demanding, but instead helps him feel more comfortable and happy in his new world.
A happy baby is quiet and alert. In this state of mind, he is ready to interact with people. When worn or carried by a parent, a contented baby can see what’s going on around him. When he sees facial expressions and hears his mother's voice, he is learning about the world.

In addition to helping infants develop emotionally and socially, baby wearing also meets their physical needs.

Babies need and enjoy motion. In the womb, they become accustomed to the sound of mother's heart pumping blood and to the feeling of being confined in a small space. The experience of being in the womb also teaches them to enjoy the rhythm of their mother’s movements. After birth, the experience of being held close to a parent’s body helps them recall the peace they felt in the womb. A baby sling swaddles them and helps control the movement of their arms and legs. As parents move around the house or walk down the sidewalk, the motion soothes babies. Parents quickly discover that their newborn will sleep while in their arms, comforted by the rise and fall of mother or father’s chest. Lay that newborn down in a crib that neither breathes nor walks and baby wakes up in a hurry! ----- http://www.lalecheleague.org/nb/nbnovdec04p204.html

Well, There you have it!

Now don't get me wrong. I still use a stroller. Mostly around the neighbourhood - to run to Walmart or if I am alone with the kids it's easiest to put Justin and Jackson in our sit n stand so Jackson is safe and there's no extra helping hands from dad. But I would much rather babywear. I know it's not for everyone but I really enjoy it and when done safely, it's an amazing experience for both mom or dad and baby!

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN A BABY-WEARER?

If yes: Did you enjoy it?

If no: Do you think it's something you'd try, if you could maybe with your own kids, grandkids or a family member?

Little Me On Halloween

Saturday, October 18, 2014

I was going through a photo album last night and found a few photos from Halloweens of the past. Of myself! So I thought it would be fun to take a look - I didn't post a Flashback Friday yesterday so this can count as that! My kids got a really big kick out of looking at these photos of me from Halloween as a kid, so why not share with you all too! I remember all these times, such happy times for me with my mom. I loved Halloween and am glad I'm able to share all these with my kids too!

Witch
Yep, I think most girls went out as a Witch a time or two, right? I dig the green hair.

Indian
I don't even know when this was but I love it. My Grandma had this costume at her house so I figured why not. I also had a FULL snow suit on under this and mittens because it was a BLIZZARD outside!

Biker Chick
This was made out of a Cardboard box. HA. My mom's boyfriend at the time had this exact same ZX6 Motorcycle and he made it for me. I thought it was the cats meow.

Baby
This was a few years ago with my kiddos, I was pregnant with Jackson at the time - Chubby:). It was the first time as an adult I dressed up because my kiddos asked, and I will be again this year :D

What was your favorite Halloween costume as a child??

Sponsored by: ELPH Band

The ELPH Band is a link to your identifying information, such as your address, parent or guardian cell phone numbers and any other information you think is necessary, including medical conditions or drug allergies your child may have. Whether you're traveling to a theme park, zoo, park, a crowded festival or even the mall, the ELPH Band can help find your child in the event he/she gets separated from you. It only takes one second for a child to disappear out of your site.

The ELPH band is a non-toxic, durable, silicone wristband. It provides an immediate, highly visible form of identification with clear instructions directly on the band. It's easy to use with options to dial in or scan the QR code. ELPH Band does not put personal information, such as the child's name or phone number where people can see it when it isn't needed.

What does ELPH stand for? Easy Lookup to Phone Home

If your child get's separated from you, all your child needs to do is show an adult his/her ELPH band. That adult can then call the 800# or scan the QR code to get in touch with you to reunite your child with you! It's that simple!

Once the QR code is scanned on a smartphone, a screen similar to the one below will pop up for them to get in touch with you.

To set up your ELPH band you will register it on a computer, or by scanning the QR code yourself and setting it up via your smartphone. Just a few simple questions and you will be registered. Once completed, you will get a text and email alert letting you know the account profile is active, and to verify the information has been entered correctly.

Erin Condren Holiday Collection Review & Giveaway!

Thursday, October 16, 2014

Now I know it's only October but after trying to decided a very critical decision the past 2 days I realized I needed to get this up sooner rather than later.

HOLIDAY CARDS

Yes! That's right. It's time to discuss Holiday cards. Every year we have to decide personalized or generic store brand. Well, let me stop you right there and tell you - after you see the Erin Condren holiday cards you won't ever want to buy generic store brand cards again. Ever.

As most of you know my love for all things Erin Condren runs deep. Very deep. So there's no surprise that when I was asked to host a review for their Holiday collection I not only jumped at the chance but I squeeled with glee (no seriously, you probably heard me!)

So, here we go.

Amazing, right?Perfection is how I would describe this.

Of course these wouldn't be Erin Condren holiday cards if they didn't have a few types of cards to choose from.

Personalization and Selection is one of the many reasons I choose Erin Condren for all my stationary, planning and card needs! Want photos on your card or maybe lots of photos? No worries, both are an option! There is even an option for no photos!

The prices are great too, very reasonable they start at as low as $1.95 and go up to $3.75. All come with envelopes which you get to choose the color of and even a choice of return labels to match!

As mentioned above in the photo there is even a choice between card stock. What do I mean? Well, see above where it says Double Thick? You can choose if you want Premium (130lb)  or Double Thick (260lb) - twice as nice! You can also pick if you want cards with rounded edges or straight. You can choose between a greeting that says Happy Holidays or Merry Christmas. You can add family names, pet names, you name it you can do it even wait for it - get FOIL cards!

Yep, that's right. FOIL CARDS. Beautifully hand stamped foil cards come in Fluer Feliz and Paisley.

There are so many gorgeous options to choose from

I have tried for the last 2 days to choose the perfect ones for us and I finally decided on what cards I would go with after playing with a few ideas. This was so hard because lets face it ALL of them would be awesome! But choosing just one, was difficult. who knew? When there's so many beautiful options to choose from it can be a bit overwhelming but the more I thought about it, looked at the choices and then held these beautiful samples in my hand my mind was made up.

I can't share exactly what I ordered because I haven't gotten them yet, but I did choose FOIL! I am a huge sucker for EC foil. SO. GORGEOUS.

There are different quantities to choose from. 10-300, and if you need more I am sure you can contact them for more. I only chose 10 as I only send to a few select family members and didn't need a huge amount, but if that is what you need the option is there.

I would suggest ordering sooner rather than later. As the Holiday's approach I know for certain lots of people will be ordering. You don't want to miss out!

Also, can we please take a moment and talk about this wonderful Candle Erin Condren has?

Island Fleur. Wow, wow,WOW. This candle smells like nothing I have ever smelt before. I've tried a lot of candles, A LOT and none of them hold the scent like the Island Fleur and none of them are as pretty either. The smell isn't overwhelming, but it's clam and fills your house up with the smell of flowers and if you close your eyes you maybe could just imagine yourself somewhere on an island sipping on a piƱa colada! It's just that good. I'm in love. So much so I just had to order two more!

Alright, so now you've seen all that Erin Condren has to offer for Holiday Cards, so now is your chance to go order some! Below is a code you can even use to get 30% off until 10/31/2014. You can also click here to use my referral code and earn $10 off your first order!

Terrible Twos? They Lied.

Wednesday, October 15, 2014

Terrible twos they said. They'd be awful, it's a terrible time they said. Well, They Lied. At least to me.

None of my kids, all 5 who have passed the age of two dealt with "terrible twos" none of them. 0/5.

What they don't tell you, and by they I mean everyone who has passed the age of two - is that age three? BEYOND WORDS what they said terrible twos would be. No, I'm not saying this happens with every child. Every child is different - and I'm sure it has a lot to do with personality, and who knows what else. It didn't happen with all mine so you may skip the phase completely.

Beyond words? Okay, that may be a little exaggeration but let me tell you - terrible threes are very real and sometimes aren't fun. Ava and now Jackson had the "terrible three" phase. Not 24/7 but had moments when I just really couldn't believe these children were mine. They had to have been switched out for lookalikes!

Thankfully, it doesn't last long and when it's all over and done with you can let a huge sigh of relief out BUT - during this wonderful time it can be trying.

Jackson just turned three in May. Terrible threes hit in September. Like I said not 24/7 but the majority of the day is spent redirecting, explaining why we don't do something, putting things back, having things thrown at us (like yesterday, wet leaves! Yes!!!) while he giggles with glee. Because wet leaves in your hair is pretty funny!

Just remember: It doesn't last forever. It is a phase, and I promise - it's not as bad as it seems.

I'm one of those moms who is a firm believer "NO!" Doesn't really work. So I try to redirect, show them what they can do/play with instead of what they can't. After all who really likes being told no? Especially being told no with no other options, right?

Some days we don't have to deal with any of the terrible three's, other days it can be very frustrating.

Jackson reminds me so much of Ava during this time. He's so sweet, small, curious, adventurous and just being a little kid. So I get it, I sympathize. This isn't my first rodeo. I am told I was the exact same way, as are most kids this age!

They lied about terrible twos, or they are mistaken. None of my kids had it. 0/5 but terrible threes? 2/5 went through the stage. So while you may have hit the two stage and thought "wow, this is a breeze!" - Just wait. Three's may be the time.

My advice to anyone who is about to hit the three stage, or who is going through it - BREATHE. It does get better, and doesn't last long. The light at the end of my tunnel? Ava. She went through the exact same as Jackson, and she's come out of it just fine. She still has a feisty attitude, which I should just attribute to her being my daughter but other than that - we all survived and lived to tell the tale.
Breathe. Redirect & You too will see the light at the end of the tunnel. They are only so small for so long.. Enjoy it while you can! This too shall pass.

Did your kids ever have a terrible twos or threes phase? or if you aren't a parent, did anyone else you know go through it?
